Join Team Buildin’ Skillz Roadrunners
Team Buildin’ Skillz Roadrunners is comprised of JFS AmeriCorps member Max Zevin and other ex-collegiate athletes racing to raise scholarship money for teens who wish to join Jewish Family Service’s Social Skills Learning Group, but can not afford to do so by themselves.
Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon, & Warren Counties is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian social service agency whose purpose is to preserve and strengthen the quality of individual, family and community life based on Jewish values.
The Social Skills Learning Group for teens ages 11-16 is a 10 week program that provides skills training to improve social skills and quality of social interactions for teens diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorders. Autism Spectrum disorders are developmental disabilities marked by impairment in social interaction and communication, as well as obsessive repetitive or compulsive behaviors. These disorders include autistic disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, and pervasive developmental disorder, not other wise specified (PPD-NOS).
In addition to the Social Skills Learning Group, JFS offers other services for families with special needs including Family Mentoring Program, Teen Mentoring, Counseling, Groups for Siblings of Children with Special Needs, Parent/Caregiver Support, and Annual Parent/Professional Educational Conference.
